Carers Australia made this submission following our response to the Primary Health Reform Steering Group recommendations on the 10 Year Plan. A Primary Health Care Plan which adheres to the principles of the Carer Recognition Act 2010 will support carers to enjoy optimum health and social wellbeing. Health care providers should treat carers as partners with other care providers, acknowledging their unique knowledge and experience. A Plan which recognises carers as both ‘partners in care’ and a priority population group will be much better positioned to provide carers with planned, coordinated and preventive health care.
