The Secret Life of Carers

Carers Australia’s podcast, The Secret Life of Carers, highlights the unique experiences of Australia’s 3 million unpaid carers. You’ll hear stories from everyday people reflecting on their role as a carer, the people they support, and the services they access. Learn from other carers about how you can become empowered as a carer and develop skills to help your caring journey.

Each season of The Secret Life of Carers has been developed as part of one of our programs. Read more about each season below:

Season 1: Mental Health Carers

The first season focuses on the experiences and stories of carers of individuals with mental-ill health or psychosocial disability. Produced as part of our #CaringthroughCOVID program and support by funding from the Department of Social Services, the season aims to highlight the experiences of mental health carers throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

Season 2: Eary Childhood Edition

Our second season was developed as part of Carers Australia’s Better Start program, which highlighted parent and carer experiences of Early Childhood Intervention and the services and pathways available to them. Each episode of Season 2 features a different parent or carers of children living with disabilities who has gone through the early intervention process.

Season 3: Women Who Care

The latest season has been produced with funding from Prime Minister and Cabinets, Office for Women, as part of our Women Who Care program. In each of the episodes we speak with a different women carer each with their own experience with balancing paid employment and care, hoping to better understand their unique challenges and address the caring employment gap.

Catch up on the previous seasons or tune into the latest episodes below, or on your favourite podcast platform: Apple podcasts, Spotify, Amazon Music, Google podcasts and more.
