Carers Australia manages the Young Carer Bursary Programme, which assists young carers aged from 12-25 to participate in education. The program is funded by the Department of Social Services and in 2016 over 320 young carers were awarded a bursary.

Now in its third year, the program attracted over 1,200 applications for the 2017 academic year.

Bursaries for the 2017 academic year have been finalised and the first instalments have been paid to the successful young carers in time to meet some of the heavy costs associated with starting a new study year.
