Carers Week 2020 logo

We are just a few weeks away from National Carers Week 2020!

From October 11 to 17 2020, National Carers Week is a time to recognise the 2.65 million Australians who provide care and support to a family member or friend with disability, mental health condition, chronic condition, terminal illness, an alcohol or other drug issue or who are frail aged.

We’re asking all carers to visit the National Carers Week website and Tell Us Why You Care! If you’re a carer, we want to hear your caring story – the more we share, the louder our voice will be! By painting an authentic picture of unpaid caring in Australia, we’ll be able to raise awareness among the broader community of just what a remarkable contribution unpaid carers make to our nation.

We’re also delighted this year to welcome The Veronicas as our campaign Ambassadors! Lisa and Jess Origliasso care for their mother, Colleen, who has a rare degenerative disease: progressive supranuclear palsy. Lisa and Jess say that their caring experiences have given them a greater strength and love for their mum.

Lisa said, ‘Caring for Mama is the most challenging thing we’ve ever had to do. It’s definitely the most rewarding.’

‘I don’t think we really recognised ourselves as carers. We are just giving to someone we absolutely would do anything for,’ said Jess.

‘We’ve realised how important it is to have support, to seek support and to know how,’ added Lisa.
