Carers Australia CEO, Ara Cresswell was pleased to be asked to give the opening speech at the WA Carers Conference 2012, ‘Caring at the Crossroads.’ Over 400 people attended the conference on Thursday 23 and Friday 24 August at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The theme for the Conference was reflected in the three program streams: Mental Health and Wellbeing; Services, Supports and Skills; and Transitions in Caring and Future Planning.
The conference included a café evening for carers, family and friends facilitated by Tim Moore, President of Carers Australia; closing plenary presentations by high profile carers including Conference MC, Karen Tighe, and Interactive panels on subjects such as Young Carers in Schools, Mental Health and the Law, Respite Options and Carer Advisors.
The conference provided carer participants with a range of interesting and practical information, opportunities for sharing stories and a range of wellbeing and self-care activities. In return carers provided information and feedback about their caring experience during the conference sessions and at the exhibition booths which was extremely valuable to Carers WA and to the sector.
The WA Carers Conference 2012 was jointly hosted by Carers WA and Mental Health Carers Arafmi (WA) and sponsored by the Department for Communities, Carers Advisory Council, Mental Health Commission WA, Disability Services Commission, Mental Health Council of Australia, and Lotterywest.
