Starting in Adelaide on 28 April and finishing in Geelong on 5 May 2013, Pollie Pedal bike riders rode over 1,000kms and raised over $700,000 for Carers Australia. The route this year was a demanding one and seemed at times more like the Tour de France than a recreational bike ride!
Over eight very full days, the Pollie Pedal riders visited many regional communities in South Australia and Victoria, talking to carers and listening to their poignant stories.
They also met a group of young carer representatives from across the country who form the Australian National Young Carer Action Team, and learnt of the specific challenges faced by Australia’s young carers.
As the main beneficiary of Pollie Pedal 2013, Carers Australia will use the proceeds to activate our Care Aware Workplaces Program, expand our Carer Ambassador Program, consult with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander carers, and deliver carer engagement activities across the country.
There is still time to donate to Pollie Pedal and to help us make Australia carer aware, by going to our Donations Page.
