Tim Moore, President of Carers Australia is very pleased to announce the appointment of Ara Cresswell as Carers Australia’s Chief Executive Officer.
“Ara has a lengthy history as an executive in the not-for-profit sector and her leadership, experience and energy will be a great asset to Carers Australia,” said Mr Moore.
Ms Cresswell’s experience includes roles across national and ACT organisations - as the Director of the ACT Council of Social Service, the CEO of the Australian Federation of Homelessness Organisations (now Homelessness Australia), and the Executive Director of Toora Women Incorporated.
Ms Cresswell has come to Carers Australia from Reconciliation Australia where she has been the Director of Policy and Public Affairs and the Director of Projects and Partnerships, with a six month period as the acting CEO.
Ms Cresswell believes that a thriving not-for-profit sector is the backbone of a truly vibrant democracy, providing essential services for many Australians, and significantly impacting public policy for the wellbeing of the nation. This, she says, “is why I work in the community sector, because what happens in this sector really matters.”
“I am very excited to have joined Carers Australia at a time when the Government has shown significant long term commitment to carers with the recent release of the National Carer Strategy,” said Ms Cresswell.
“I am looking forward to working with the Carers Australia Board, the network of Carers Associations, government and key stakeholders to direct and shape policy that will ultimately improve the lives of Australia’s 2.6 million carers.
“I understand there are many challenges ahead but I am very committed to working towards Carers Australia’s vision that ‘caring is accepted as a shared community responsibility’.”
