Sonia Rutnam, Chairperson

Sonia BhojwaniSonia is a British qualified chartered accountant and a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.  She has over 20 years’ experience in executive positions and board advisory across the healthcare and media industries.

She has a passion for helping children with developmental delays and in 2016 founded Once Upon A School Limited, a charity that assists children to build self-esteem and confidence through technology and creative arts programs. Sonia also has a deep interest in cultural intelligence and its impact on organisations and communities.  In 2019 she established the Shremaya Foundation, which promotes inter-faith and cultural understanding through cultural arts.

Sonia believes in providing advocacy for those voices that are sometimes seldom heard – unpaid carers.  As a single parent, Sonia relied on the support of friends and community to overcome times of adversity.  Now its time to give back given that both her daughters have blossomed into beautiful and balanced young adults.

Sonia was an independent member of the Carers Australia Board Finance, Audit, Risk and Governance Sub-Committee since 2017.  She became a member of the Board and President in November 2019.
