Carers Australia congratulates the new Minister for Social Services on his appointment

Posted December 19, 2017

“Carers Australia would like to congratulate the Hon Dan Tehan MP on his appointment as the Minister for Social Services,” said Ara Cresswell, CEO of Carers Australia.

“Carers Australia looks forward to working with Minister Tehan to support carers in their demanding role. There are 2.7 million carers who provide 36 million hours of unpaid care a week, every week, which has been valued at $60.3 billion annually and they deserve ongoing support through Government policy and programs.

“Carers Australia appreciates the support of the Government in delivering many programs for carers, including the Young Carer Bursary Program. This program continues to support over 300 young carers with their education and training costs every year.

“There is still much to be done to ensure that unpaid carers are properly supported and are able to access the same choices and opportunities as other Australians.

“Carers Australia would like to thank the outgoing Minister, the Hon Christian Porter MP, for his work and consultations to improve the wellbeing of family and friend carers.
