Carers Australia is delighted that the Commonwealth and the NSW Government have reached an agreement on funding the full roll-out of the National Disability Insurance Scheme by July 2018.  We strongly urge other states and territories to follow the NSW lead.

“The commitment of the Commonwealth and the NSW governments to long-term funding arrangements is a vital sign that the NDIS will be more than just a short-term experiment” said Tim Moore, President of Carers Australia.

“The cross party support for NDIS at the Federal level, which has again been confirmed this week, has been very gratifying; as has the willingness of the majority of states and territories to participate in the initial round of launch sites.

“Uncertainty, however, over the funding of the Scheme has cast a shadow over its long term future”, said Mr Moore.

“In NSW at least, that future now seems more assured, and we congratulate the NSW government for its commitment.

“People with disabilities and their carers elsewhere in Australia will be holding their breath to see if their own governments will agree to provide the required funding to ensure that Australians with a disability will have the support and security they so desperately need.”
