The Young Carer Bursary Programme aims to help relieve the financial pressure on young carers to undertake part-time employment in addition to managing their educational and caring responsibilities.
Some young carers are missing out on education or training because of the emotional and financial pressures they face. The provision of a bursary reduces these pressures and increases the opportunity for young carers to remain in, or return to, education or training, leading to improved employment opportunities and long-term finances.
The three-year programme was announced by the Australian Government in 2014 and is administered by Carers Australia.
The application process for the final year of bursaries is due to begin in the second half of 2016.
