Brett Walker holds Bachelors degrees in Arts and Law from the University of Sydney, Masters degrees in Law from the University of Sydney and the University of Technology, Sydney (with Honours) and a Graduate Certificate in Executive Leadership from the Australian Graduate School of Management at the University of New South Wales.
Brett is a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of NSW and the ACT and the High Court of Australia and has most recently held senior executive roles with the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation including the roles of General Counsel, Deputy Chief Executive, Operations and Executive Director, Operations. Brett has represented Australia at international trade-related negotiations and has had nearly 30 years experience as a commercial lawyer in both private practice and in-house counsel roles in the commercial and government sectors. Brett has also held part-time academic positions at the University of Sydney, the University of Canberra and the University of Western Sydney.
Brett has a special interest in respite care and has been on the Carers ACT Board since 2006 and was appointed a Carers Australia Board director in January 2014. Brett was President of Carers ACT between 2006 and 2011. Brett is a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and has held positions on a number of Boards including mostly recently the Commonwealth Legal Network Services Board which Brett chaired.
Brett is currently a Visiting Lecturer at the College of Law at the Australian National University and also works as a consultant to Government and Businesses.
