Media Release

Carers Australia is the recognised national voice of Australian carers. Our members are the carers associations in each state and territory. We have no political affiliation. Carers Australia welcomes National Companion Card initiative

The National Companion Card launched today is a welcome initiative that recognises the importance of the relationship between people with a disability, their families and carers.

“The Companion Card addresses the reality of this relationship” said Joan Hughes CEO Carers Australia.

“It also highlights the importance of finding new and innovative approaches to ensure that people with a disability and carers are fully supported in our communities.”

Carers Australia congratulates the government and the businesses across Australia who have already signed up to this scheme, which will provide better affordability in accessing entertainment and other community events.

This is a positive step forward for people with a disability and their carers” Ms Hughes said. “This innovative approach will help some of Australia’s most socially isolated people, participate more in community life.

“We hope that this scheme will encourage people with a disability and carers to spend time doing more of the things that they enjoy, such as attending sporting events, concerts and movies.”
